Audience Reviews for Daiteiden no yoru ni (Until the Lights Come Back) Quite nice Japanese movie about events over one night in Tokyo during a power cut. Several characters cross paths as we discover their stories. It is long at over 2 hours, maybe a little too long, but it is an enjoyable story. It's set on Xmas eve, so there are some pretty scenes too in the first part of the movie.

Visually Until the Lights Come Back is a wonderful film, somewhat slick and polished in places, but shot with a great feel for lighting, color and framing. Cinematographer Tetsuo Nagata did a splendid job, which isn't too surprising when looking at the rest of his resumé (Blueberry, Splice, Micmacs). The music too is an asset for the film.
When all is said and done, Until The Lights Come Back is a quiet, introspective film that sneaks up on you, as it laments lost loves, exposes long-buried secrets, and celebrates life's little coincidences. It's a romantic movie, but by no means in the traditional sense.
